Historic Golf Photos on Display
By David Patterson

Historic Golf Photos is allowing a portion of its collection to be viewed on the internet now at This is a collection of copyrighted photographs (500,000) assembled by Ron Watts, of the Edwin Watts Golf family. It commemorates golf legends from the turn of the century to the present day. This collection is the culmination of the LIFE work of nine photographers. Many of the images come from the work of Frank Christian and include work from four generations of the Christian family, the official club photographers for Augusta National and the Masters.

In addition to Frank Christian, Augusta native Morgan Fitz made significant contributions to the history of golf contained in these archives.

In 1999 Ron Watts expanded his collection with the addition of 150,000 images from the life work of Chuck Brenkus. Chuck Brenkus was a renowned West Coast photographer with an interest in high speed photography. Using a specially modified camera he captured the swings of golfing greats on film at the rate of 70 frames per second.
